Item Description:
This interesting lot consists of three negs from the PRysCo.
and are from the collection of the former Pennsylvania
Railroad New York based P. R. manager, Cecil Muldoon.
"Cec" was a traction and railroad buff, unlike most of
his colleagues and while a sports writer in Pittsburgh,
photo'ed much of that city's rail and traction scene.
Although these negs are not "great," they are interesting
and unusual, and are marvelous for "background" views.
All three negs are bl & wh, 2 3/8" x 5 3/8". The first
two are of 4223. In the first neg, the car is shown
on a street in Pitts, after the great June, 1947 flood.
The street is essentially flooded and the trolley is making
its way down the street on 6-14-47. Although the trolley
is "hazy," the background is great as are the two just pre
WW II automobiles, one directly in front of the camera (NOT
obstructing the streetcar) and the other to the left of
the trolley. The other view of 4223 was taken on Shore Avenue
(I do not know where that is in Pitts) and although the
car is in motion, and the very far left edge is cut off
by the passenger window sill of the automobile, it is
still a wonderful view, as Olbum's (or Album's) Furniture
building is in the right background as are the wonderful
pre WW II automobiles. Again, though, the trolley is "in
motion." The third neg is double ender 4300 shuttling
to Sewickley during bridge repairs on 8-20-47. Again,
NOT a great shot of the car, and the left side of the
neg has dark marks as if it were at the end of the roll
along with three tiny but noticeable staple holes (don't know
why). However, again, the background is very good: a
small building directly behind the trolley and automobiles
make this a very interesting view, although not totally
clear. Also, there are a few very small "dirt" marks on
the right side of the neg and, because negs are NON returnable
and NON refundable, I want you to know about any flaws.
