About a week ago there was a discussion concerning the "smoke" that came
out from under a low-floor car on the Fineview line. I worked with Art
Ellis yesterday at PTM and asked him what caused the appearance of smoke or
dust coming from under the car.
His response: There was a reservoir on top of the hill that leaked and
that section of track was always in water. It was steam coming off the
wheels that were heated from braking.
Fred III was there with me when I asked and questioned the theory of the
wheels getting heated going up the hill. Art replied: The section of track
in question is beyond the first summit.
