It's not *totally* impossible on foot. I did it that way in 1974: Bus 
from Pittsburgh to Meadowlands, on foot to Arden (one mile) then 
on foot to Washington for the return. I underestimated the distance 
for that last leg and found myself still some distance from the bus 
station with time running out; accosted a driver waiting at a red 
light who, after looking at me suspiciously, commanded me to "git 
in" and drove me to the bus with about two minutes to spare.

Not necessarily the recommended way of doing the museum - 
which, by the way, has a lot more to offer than it did then.
