I don't think there is a place not dedicated to the value of their
currency.  I've looked at both free market economies, some in between,
and purely socialist economies.  Every one of them, in my opinion, had
good points and bad points, but not always the same share.  But they all
placed money on a pedestal. 

The Communists had two standards of living ... that for the peons and
that for those higher up in the party.  In Bulgaria, for example,
toilets for the masses were holes in the floor.  The party faithful had
American style sit-down conveniences.  And the faithful got theirs at
the expense of street paving for the others.  

The average man waited up to seven years to get a plastic Trabant
automobile.  The party leaders were allowed to send hard currency out to
Sweden to get Volvos. 

I would rather be where I'm rewarded for my efforts, and not where every
working stiff gets the same money.  But even in communist countries,
there were different standards.
