I was speaking of a new Sealed--Beam Headlight on 1700 as opposed to the Golden Glow with
which it was delivered. Dash lights could be affected as well.
Doubt it was just accidents that did away with the Dash Lights --- it was obviously a
hole in the dash and rather than keep them operating they were just removed. This
happened to the 16s as well. And Ken had pointed out a photo where there were
2-different colored dash lights and one car running around under ({[pat]}) days with
only one dangling dash light. Very few cars made it into ({[pat]}) days with dash
lights. But was sure glad to see them return in the 1970s --- adds real charm and
character to the equipment.
Everything became simplified with time to reduce maintenance, even the paint schemes.
Much less trouble to paint a "V"--front than the hourglass, and even less trouble to paint
a solid red dash as all PCCs up through 1699 were delivered. And then the cream over red
was simpler yet!

Hope it wasn't just an assault by trolleycars --- think the autos, trucks etc could
be at fault as well.
