When I was a kid in Pittsburgh, my Grandmother, who was Italian, Used the 
term "machina"(pronounced makeena) when referring to automobiles. She did 
call the trolleys "streetcars" though. I am to this day a fan of streetcars 
because of her. She took me for my first ride.
