Let's start with the baby boomers. I am one of the latter baby
boomers(39years old and holding). When I lived in Pittsburgh, I knew nothing
about trolleys except riding the PCCs. If enough babyboomers associated with
museums get their children involved, and of course with enough volunteers,
grants, donations, etc., museums would flourish for years to come. I forgot
one thing. KNOWLEDGE. The older gentlemen have enough of it to go around.
Although alot of the conversations on this list(especially the technical
aspects) are unfamiliar to me, I still enjoy reading them. I have acquired
numerous books, photos, videos, etc. so I may have much more of what I
believe is the most important part of any museum. KNOWLEDGE. Without it,
there would be no donations, grants, volunteers, etc. I recently became an
associate member of PTM. I was so impressed with my August visit that I am
almost positive that I am going to use a vacation week next year to
volunteer. I have made a nice donation for 1711 and plan to make many more
such donations to the general fund as well. My only regret is that there just
isn't enough time in the day to absorb all the information I wish to. So keep
talking everyone. Talk to your children, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews,
and grandchildren. And talk to me. You have the KNOWLEDGE. Some of your
pupils are very willing to learn. Just remember, someone is listening.
                                                                        Mark
