Harrisburg
Federal Building and State Capitol building shut down mid-morning. (as
always, the legislature takes care of themselves first) Comptroller's
office, which is separate state agency but in our building, left just before
noon. It was around 1pm before word finally filtered into PennDOT offices
that state offices had been closed.
But buildings not sealed. I waited almost an hour for traffic to evaporate
before leaving. My assessment was that PennDOT building would not be a
target. The capital building and federal buildings are easier to find
landmarks.
As we were monitoring events on radio in the morning, attacks were NYC and
Wash., not any state capital. But if we had heard of attack on say Albany
or Trenton, it would have been 'screw management - we're outa here'!!!
Relative mentioned that his Army Reserve unit in New Jersey asked for
members interested in five day tours: suspects to fill/move body bags. Job
normally done by police and firemen who were caught when first building
collapsed. He also mentioned that ferry boats are being used to move body
bags to Military Ocean Terminal-Bayonne.
