Hi Fred,

I know this is still off topic, but let's help a friend anyway! I know how
you feel Fred, even from down here in Melbourne, some of us I guess, are
more "feeling" than others in society, I for one can't bare to see someone
in pain and I'm a veteran, maybe having lived through the nightmare of war
makes one more sensitive, I don't know, it's an old cliché that, "no-one
hates war more than a soldier". We have a TV ad here about arthritis that
shows a little girl crying, obviously in great pain, laying on her mothers'
lap, it kills me every time I see it, like the two thousandth time I've seen
that 767 plough into the tower. The trouble is, as a friend of mine in
Baltimore remarked, the media is trying to "out-disaster one another",
there's even been reports that some goulish reporters have dressed up as
firemen and such to get in closer for better "footage" screw-em.

The TV has a lot to answer for, all this coverage tends to desensitise
people that are a little less feeling than us, after a while, getting
bombarded with this makes you sick of the sight of it, I guess these folks
were saying, they've had enough of having it jammed down their throat's and
life really does have to go on, even on the PAT Light Rail (ah a link at
last!!). I fear for the current new generation growing up in a world of
movie violence un heard of in our day (when Humphrey shot someone, you
did'nt even see any blood, now you see the entrails and all) that makes them
blase' to human suffering.

As I said in my letter of condolance to the list, I feel for the flight crew
etc., I have a copy of the series that the British ABC did called "black
box" which went into detail about air disasters and the last one was about
the TWA 800 flt, listening to the controllers talking to the crew, then
nothing, then another Captain calling in an explosion, then ATC trying to
raise flt 800 and then the other crew say, "I think that was them" ATC says,
"I think you are right", then the captain says "God Bless them", I still
feel a lump in my throat just writing about it now.

So Fred, pour your heart out mate, if you want a Cyberspace shoulder,
contact me of list, I'm here for you man, the least I can do from the other
side of the world.

Greg
