Oh, gee! -- as it did not affect driver visability, the hump must
have been removed by some anti-traction nut to remove "painful"
memories. Maybe it was some farmer trying to reclaim his land.
Or was it by the State preparing for an eventual widening of the
highway? Otherwise, it must have been "make-work". I'll miss it
-- it was, from 1952, a "monument" to a lost traction system.

BTW, there was a "situation" of similar note in Maryland. It was
decided to erect an overpass for automobiles on then-US 50 across
the Baltimore Washington & Annapolis Railway near Seabrook. After
several years of wrangling, the overpass, complete with steep
approaches was built in 1931 -- the WB&A succumbed just 4 years
later! US 50 continued to use the narrow bridge until 1957 when
the highway was relocated, the old road becoming Md 450. The
bridge continued in use over the now-abandoned R/W until 1999
when it was finally removed -- Msryland's "monument" to a lost
traction system.

Per a recent trip on the turnpike I should share that the mound which was
the south approach to the West Penn's bridge over the turnpike, which
until recently had a Hoss's billboard facing westbound traffic, has been
removed, probably in mid-August.

Hadn't been mentioned so I figured I should.
