Someone was asking about the auction earlier this week. Someone just
forwarded me a memo that originated from Peter Ehrlich, it is copied below.
I wonder who "Jim" could be!!!!

Hi, gang!
Great news!
Tonight at the MSR meeting I learned that Muni was the successful bidder on
an Internet auction where two retired Pittsburgh PCCs, 4008 and 4009 were
being auctioned. Muni paid the winning bid of $10,000 each. Silk Road
Transport (the New York State trucking company which moved cars for the
original PCC rebuild contract) will be bringing the two cars out to San
Francisco. GM Michael Burns himself participated in this auction.
Plans are to get the cars regauged as soon as possible and into service,
although folding doors will be required in the front, and wheelchair spaces
created.
4008 and 4009 were built in the 1980s and have aluminum skins. They were
built in PATransit South Hills Shops on the frames of retired 1700s.
Inside, they have fluorescent lighting, and have a number of solid-state
auxiliaries, but the controller is the standard Westinghouse drum
controller.
I know one person on the list (who shall remain nameless) who will be *very*
happy with this purchase! Right, Jim? hehehe
