Good Morning!!

	Peter Ehrlich is an operator--railfan on the historic cars in SF.
Here is his response to an inquiry about the Newark paint scheme on the
ex-Philly PCCs operating in SF:::::::

Jim,

	As in the case of the other F-Line PCCs rebuilt by M-K, Muni had the
cars painted in colors already in Muni's paint palette which were as
close to the original as possible. In Newark 1060's case, they only had
the lighter shade of gray available. This was before the advent of the
Bredas, which have a very dark gray which actually was closer to the old
PSCT gray--except that it was *too* dark.

	The exception to the "as close to available Muni colors as possible"
was Brooklyn PCC 1053. In this case, Muni was able to get ahold of the
shade of blue-green paint which inexplicably was still in the New York
City Transit Authority's paint stock (40 years after NYCTA had gone to
blue and white--LOL), and this was used for the 1053. Muni has since
kept this color in stock and has replenished it in recent times.

	We can argue *why* till doomsday --
		(might not be too far off!!) --
	but we at least have an explanation!
