Subject: [PRCo] Re: Pittsburgh - Harmony
In the latest RAILPACE mag. they trace the CSX line from near Harmony
and New Castle to Butler with what looks like Geodedic Survey maps but
no interurban r-o-w appears on them. Usually r-o-w shows up on these
maps as dirt roads or even identified as former RR lines !! The route
of this line is a mystery to me as I tried tracking it down around the
Butler area many moons ago without luck . They used huge steel bridges
across some areas and looking at pix it seems to be up on the sides of
hills. Pages 113 thru115 in INTERURBAN ERA. The text says they were the
first to use a 1200 volt DC system and imployed the use of concrete ties
instead of usual wooden type on much of the line , tho none is seen in
the pix.
