Absolutely. Usually by couplers and control and then by car orders.
Ingram was an HL barn. So was Tylerdale. Keating was K control non
MU.

Just like the PCCs, they minimized other parts stock problems by putting
all or a substantial number of cars in a class in one barn. Ingram had
all the GE 1500s and half the GE 1700s. Keating had the other half of
the GE 1700s, 1000s, 1100s. The GE 1600s were at Millvale. And so
forth.

When World War II broke out (passive voice as if no one started the
war?), low-speed cars had to go back into service. They all went to
Manchester for the duration.

When it came to yellow cars, the 5500s were at Keating. Ingram had
5200s.

Every barn had its own assortment. But these assignments were not
indefinite.
They did change over time. There is no guarantee that five years later
the patterns would be identical. In fact, just before the end of yellow
car service, some of Keating's 5500s were at Bunkerhill. I know, there
is a date conflict ... lets say early 1950s to get away from the problem
with Bunkerhill closing while there were still yellow cars in service.

The only barn that I can almost guarantee never changed was Homewood,
because whether it was PCCs or yellow cars, they took the residual from
everywhere else. After all, the main parts stock room was only a block
away.

Therefore, if you were to ask Dick Bowker about car assignments during
WW2, he'll point out that 87 Ardmore trippers from Homewood to
Westinghouse included anything capable of moving.
Low Speed, High Speed, MU, K control, anything that ran.
