A week or so ago one of you put a web address on the line that connected
us wioth a Post Gazette piece on the dance hall at Linden Grove stop on
the line to Castle Shannon.
In the very late 1950s or perhaps early 1960s (pre-PAT) I was out for an
evening trolley ride ... one of those kill time after dinner rides. We
stopped at Linden Grove, and one after another some 40 post pubescent
women got off the car (in a stream that would remind one of the Crosley
auto that Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey owned and that a
seemingly endless and impossible number of clowns exited). No young
men. Just teenage women. After the last girl left, the doors were
closed, and the motorman glanced over at me, and tongue in cheek
remarked, "I always bring the girls out here but never take them home.
Strange. I can't figure out how they get home.". And with a grin, we
were off to Library.
How many teenagers today could ever dream that a trolley car could be
part of the mating ritual...? [We'll maybe. Again in Pittsburgh. To
get to South Hills Village Mall.]
