Good Morning!

	Just received word from several highly reliable sources that the Valley
Transportation Authority (VTA) of Santa Clara, CA, which includes San
Jose, is looking at a 70%-personnel reduction come July-2003.

	April-2003 may see elimination of weekend light rail service.

	My immediate reaction is that this is infinitely beyond a 
*Worst--Case*  scenario and is total hysteria.

	But a 70%-Personnel reduction could include far more than just
operators and/or drivers    ----    it could take an huge bite out of
management.    Certainly all departments would be affected.    So this
does Not necessarily translate into a 70%-reduction of service.

	Let's hope this does not get beyond rumor stage.
