We did not make a whole lot of mistakes but you found one.  No, they were not Peter
Witts.  They were center entrance, front andf center exit cars.

One-man operation?  Without looking it up, middle 1920s.  Pittsburgh was probably
the first if not very close to the first system to convert major trunk lines to
one-man operation.  The painted front-entrance signs on low-floor cars that were
always running one-man.  By the very early 1930s, the front-entrance signs
disappeared because that was the only entrance.

I have no idea when the pay leave outbound, pay enter inbound with the
rip-off-the-company zone downtown took place.
