I remember Duquesne Gardens and saw a game there in November, 1954. It
really did resemble a carbarn inside, or at least an old industrial
building. There were numerous structural columns among the seats, and I
think that capacity was less than 6,000 people.
The Hornets played at Duquesne Gardens through the end of the 1955-56
season, and then the team was disbanded when the building was torn down.
The Hornets came back to Pittsburgh in the Fall of 1961 when the Civic Arena
opened. And again, trolleys (this time routes 82 and 85) stopped at the
door.
