Uh, I don't know where to begin, but one thing I do know is that
Greyhound's involvement with the NSL was very brief. They made some
improvements to the NSL before kicking it loose. The Susquehanna
Corporation was the company that owned the line in its final years and
they decided to abandon.
I tend to believe, like some other list members, most U.S. traction
systems were casualties of loss of patronage, lack of capitol to retain,
maintain and improve the plant, traffic congestion, expressway
construction, changed traffic patterns (i.e., one way streets),
decentralization of urban areas, local politics, the rising cost of new
streetcars after WW II and the economic decline of older neighborhoods
served by street railways.
For those of you who disagree with me, go ahead and let me have
it........ :-)
