Cleveland purchased them for $250,000.00 cash and 20 new buses. They ended up
on the St. Clair and Superior lines in Cleveland, replacing Pullman build
PCCs. It was more politics than need the made the Cleveland Transit System
purchase the Louisville PCCs. Clevelands own Pullman built PCCs were not
enough to place all over the system. One very powerful City Councilman
(Victor Cohen/West Side) indicated that more PCCs had to be bought so the
cars could be used on both the East and West sides. CTS officials jumped when
Cohen spoke and got the Louisville cars to keep peace with him. The Pullman
PCCs were shifted from St. Clair Station to Brooklyn Station and served on W
25th/State and W 25th/Pearl and also saw some service on Clark Avenue and owl
service on Lorain Avenue.
So you see, they did not "pause" in Cleveland........they were Clevelands
property. Most of the cars never saw the state of Kentucky, let alone the
City of Louisville. They were shipped directly from St. Louis Car Company to
Cleveland. Toronto bought them thirdhand from Cleveland.
