Regular diesel buses also operate some trips thru the bus tunnel.. They have done
this for years.
Dual mode can work if properly done. Public Service used the same electric motor
for both overhead wire and gasoline generator power. The Breda dual power have separate transmissions for the two power supplies. That means more weight. The Breda buses
are not diesel electric. They have two distinct power systems. Breda built what Seattle
wanted which was probably developed based on Renault and Neoplan demos in the
early 1980's. The Renault bus was based on the Nancy design.
Other than the weight and the complexity of the vehicle, the Seattle bus tunnel works
well. The concept of branching off onto the Interstates to suburban park ride lots is
OK. Provies a fast one seat ride.
