Folks:

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it in this forum; the slide presentation
and added bonus at PTM on Saturday were excellent to say the least.

The weekend started on Friday, Dr Fred Sauerburger and I made our way across
the state taking in the rail related sites on the way - Enola yard, EBT and
RTY, Altoona and the curve. The highlight if the day, for me, was a visit
to the Western PA Model RR Museum in Gibsonia that Dr. Fred arranged. Their
web site -- http://www.wpmrm.org/pittsburgh.htm -- doesn't do justice to the
model of the Smithfield Street Bridge on their layout. It is a suburb model
and I recommend a visit if you are in the area. Also on Friday a contingent
went searching Washington County for the ghosts of West Penn, we arrived a
little late for that adventure.

Saturday was about as a complete a trolley day as I have ever spent. I
won't go into details but I want to thank everyone at PTM for the friendly
hospitality they showed. I've never felt so welcome at a place like this as
I did on Saturday, and it wasn't just because of these boyish good looks.
They are doing a lot of things right at PTM.

Finally the slide presentation. John put an enormous amount of work into
selecting and organizing the slides we saw, right down to the detailed list
of slides. A great variety of Pittsburgh slides. Anyone who missed it
missed a good thing. Thanks John and everyone at PTM.

Oh yes, the bonus. During intermission I was taken back a few years to my
daily commute through Washington Junction to Downtown when I would have to
hold on and watch the trolley flashes light up the scenery while a PCC
rocked along Rt. 88 at about 100 mph. During intermission we all piled into
a PCC and duplicated that commute, without the violent rocking of the car.

Before we returned on Sunday we took a look at the new Overbrook line. They
are moving an unbelievable amount of earth, and trees, on that hillside.
There are pictures on the PAT web site if you can't go see it for yourself.

Enough of my rambling.
Bob
