Without going back and digging out tapes to watch this evening, I seem to 
remember
some instances where the operator leaned out of a car -- probably moving 
slowly -- and flipped the little wood lever that activated his signal for the 
next block.

Oh, the coal company property that would be behind the photographer and to 
his right is now an ice skating arena, but as Ed says, much is the same.  
When he took us to Dawson and last year it was hard to pick out much of the 
right of way until almost into town.  The row from the Jct. almost to Philips 
is pretty clear but it helps a bunch to have an Ed along.  Very steep grades 
from just past the Jct. up to and over Little Summit (a few houses and a 
church) and back down the other side.  Ed even
located a few bee hive ovens for us along the back line.
