I just found my copy of the above mentioned book done by Richard C.
Albert that was done in 1980 in a soft cover version. I don't remember
where I got it but it is a good history on the West Penn Trafford line
from Erwin . It has a track map and several pictures of the line when it
was running and now shots of the r-o-w. An interesting air view of
Trafford shows a PRCo car on state route 80 outside Pitcairn and a West
Penn car on Westmoreland Road . According to the author, both cars are
headed to Trafford for a meet in the center of town . The date was 1939
. Cover photo shows PRCo car #4351 and WP car #289 at the meeting point
in Trafford on May 30, 1941 in a pix by L.S.DIETRICH .
Ending of freight service by WP on Sept 15,1941 caused by the
condemnation of the downtown Pittsburgh freight terminal was the reason
abandonment was applied for on the line to Larimer just outside Irwin .
Passengers were only high school kids going to IRWIN'S HIGH School from
Cavittsville,Ardara, and Larimer . Abandon ment of this part was delayed
by the start of WW2 but was determined not to be needed for the war
effort and final cars ran Aug 15,1942. Larimer to Irwin lasted til
Jan.3,1948 .
