Good Morning!
Fred DO have a photo of a car with at least *78* displayed
on the dasher!:) This photo was from the *collection* of
FWS3 and appeared as the October display in the 1992 PTM
calendar. It shows the delivery of double-deck car 6004 at the
P&LE yard near Carson. The destination sign actually reads
*N.Highland.*
.......And a photo from *Trolley Talk* shows a lineup of 5273,
5269, 5213, and 4895 at Highland Car House with
""82-Lincoln,"" ""86-E.Liberty,"" ""71-Negley over
Highland,"" and ""Larimer"" displayed respectively.
From an undated *Railroad--Magazine* article on PRCo (but 1949
to 1953 as it shows an operator using the *Trolley--phone* on a
17-Interurban) it states that none of the 5100s are in service at
this date except the only speeded up car in this series, 5149.
Other notes I have indicate this car was converted to High-Speed
on 1948.03.04, very late in the game.
The 5100s, about half built late 1924 with the balance in 1925,
had a fair number actually scrapped in the late 1940s while a
majority of the 4800s and 4900s remained in service longer than
the 5100s and these 48s and 49s were scrapped in 1953--1954!
