And how long before the motors fly apart?
I've been reading through the statewide summaries of individual transit company
reports to the Department of Internal Affairs. So how many electric lines were there
in Pennsylvania? Well, that depends on who didn't bother to fill in the report that
year. The DIA acknowledged that some railways could be written to three times and
visited twice without any affect at all. Didn't matter what the law was. Some were
considtently eratic. Some quit filing reports several years before they were
abandoned. And then there were some like the Philadelphia and Western that never
filed a report ... Hmmm ... I wonder if it might be under railroads instead of under
trolley lines. And Fairmount Park Transit didn't file before 1921 (yet they opened
in 1896) ... maybe they considered themselves an amusement park until 1921.
And then there is the greatest lie of all ... that National City Lines conspired to
get rid of the trolleys and they were convicted for that. How many times have we
heard that?
