It's all Jim Holland's fault that I started following ebay auctions - he tipped 
me off to a couple of items and I did very well by them.

But yesterday something happened that I'm still fuming over after a night's 
sleep:

I'd been watching a map which had received absolutely no bids, and put one in 
myself a in the last hours. I kept a lookout, and still nothing further 
happened. Five minutes before closing I looked away and that's when somebody 
swooped in out of nowhere to outbid me.

Obviously this is no place for amateurs.
