Five minutes? The swooper was an amateur. It's a common bidding method for
those with more money than brains. You wait until 20-30 seconds to go, then
bid some humungous amount and automatically go to the head of the bidding
line. I've done it myself (no, it wasn't me on whatever you were bidding
on).
