Historical development, facts and figures from the time of the French and Indian War to description of the construction of all of the railroad stations and lines maintained by 22 railroad companies throughout the city, this is a fascinating look at the city that "Promotes Progress", "Pittsburgh The Powerful."
This guide book is geared to visitors arriving to the city by train. Every possible streetcar or trolley route, the 7 incline planes, or railroad connection to see different parts of the city are explained in great detail.
The map is an integral part of the book and has a key to denote 57 buildings, parks and Forbes Field.
Hotels, Public Buildings, Department Stores, Parks, Schools, Churches, Farms, Boulevards, Steel Mills, Clubs,Neighborhoods, an unbelievable amount of information for each and every one. This is so detailed, it would be a wonderful research reference tool for anyone looking for even obsurce details about the city, companies or structures prior to 1916. There is also much information on the outlying boroughs such as Braddock, Turtle Creek, Wilmerding and others.
Using this book, there is enough detail to recreate the city of 1915, it's streets and buildings and transportation system with complete accuracy.
Condition:The front cover has a wonderful sketch of tourists viewing the Point from the Duquesne Incline at the top of Mount Washington. It has evidence of wear, soiling, some chips, creases and bent corners but is still intact. Inside most pages are clean, a few have yellowing, and are filled with illustrations.
