Greetings to every one
It has been very quiet. Lets talk about PCC 1788.
This was the Bicentennial Tour Trolley used on Route 49.
Red, white and Blue...but a lighter blue than 1776, as I remember it.
Carried a Joseph Horne Co. side advet panel
"Root-A-Toot-Toot for Pittsburgh. Joseph Horne Co."
Carried "Bicennial Tour Trolley" above side windows, on front next
to headlight and on destination signs "49 Tour Trolley".
A PA system was installed and a tape played each trip up and down the
hill.
The tape started with the music "There is a pawn shop in Pittsburgh" and
then
words describing the trip. Very professional. Saturday rides included
many kids.
Was this part of the Golden Age of Pittsburgh street cars?
How many of you rode this car in service with the tape deck playing.
Also April was Earth Day. We had a green and white E-Trolley.
These promotions really boosted PA ridership in the mid l970's
Thanks to John Mauro, the Executive Director for his patience with
my suggestions and to Ken Husson and Phil Castelano for their
profesional
work in carrying the advertising out.
Also, in time of war. Charles Dengler photographed the many World
WarII
war bond cars on 22-Crosstown.
Arden might consider a photo display of these war bond cars.
