While Fred III was a 13-year-old riding the interurbans, I was 13 during the PAT mod-era. For a 13-year-old who knew no better, the color of the cars really got my heart pumping. I remember riding 1776II at least twice. I never had the pleasure of riding 1788II. Me and a buddy for some reason found it exhilarating to deface US currency(pennies) by placing them on the tracks and seeing the end result when run over by quite a few tons. A motorman caught us at Clearview Loop and asked if we would please stop doing this. He was nice enough to take us on a free roundtrip ride. I found the 1700's my farorites looks-wise, but nothing could compare to the open windows on a 1600. I remember when the tunnel was being rebuilt and deviating through the 49 line. I always thought it was too time consuming and boring. I guess I was always a PRW lover. This is why some of us would love to have your memories of riding the interurbans to Charleroi and Washington, Fred. Drake was my favorite in the mod-era. Perhaps because of the single track, but the PRW was quite exhilarating! I can only see the interurbans in photos and what little video footage is available. I have a video that Bruce Wells put together for me. Quite nice. I wish there was someone out there who had a complete video of the trip from Pittsburgh to Charleroi/ Washington. Can any of you guys help here? Mark Mc
