That's what I initially thought, but didn't remember a church at Craft and
Forbes, just a 1930s era government building across the street from Craft
Ave. carhouse (and that's more of a vague image, rather then a strong
memory). And wasn't sure what Consolidated Traction might have had at
Atwood between Forbes and Fifth.
>From 1923 plat map, the track in foreground seems to match track layout
coming off of Forbes at southwest end of Craft Ave. carhouse. Then that
would be St. Peter's Episcopal Church across the street. The problem is the
row housing in the upper right background.
In 1904, prior to construction of Craft Ave., should be siite of E. L.
Porter house/mansion. In 1923 property is owned by Allegheny County but
house seems to remain.
However, from this angle, the row home in background is probably southside
(side and part of rear) of 3332 Fifth Ave., which was owned by M. Loudon in
the 1904 plat map. And the E. L. Porter house, which I was looking for,
while sitting back about 100 feet Forbes, is hidden by Craft Ave.
substation.
Suspicion confirmed
Nice photo. Thanks, Jim, for providing link.
