Greetings
Interesting trip cross country by interurban
Even more interesting was a 1910 trip in a two week, 2000 mile
interurban charter from
Utica, NY to Louisville uasing a deluze Oneida Ry car #512 called the
Utica NY Electic
Railway tour. It was a trip to sell Utica's goods acoss the USA.
Presentations
were made in many cities to political and business leaders. The Oneida Ry
was a third rail interurban wihich also used overhead wire in some sections.
Read the "Longest interurban charter" by Larry Plachno in 1988. (ISBN
0-933449-08-9_
There were some gaps to go from the East to Chicago. One was in
NY state
and the other in Indiana. Trips were possible from NY to Boston
(actually from
Delaware to Phila to New Jersey to NY was also possible.
I did the trip by bus, trolley and subway from New Castle, Del to Stanford
in 1946.
In California, a long trip would have been from SF to Chico vi a
Sacramento Northern.
Jim thanks for sharing this.
Happy New Year to all
