Looking closely at the topo map, it seems the 1000 foot contour is
right at the intersection of Alexandria and Baker Hill. The
intersection of Alexander and Thompson is about .75 of the way
between the 980 and 1000 contours, so Alexandria drops 15 feet.
There is an elevation marked near where Baker Hill ends, I think I
see 1026, and certainly Baker Hill crosses the 1020 contour on its
way up.
So my estimate of a 40 foot difference between the east end of Baker
Hill and Thonpson or Derry Street (which was based on mental images
of the bluff behind the houses on Baker Hill) seems about right,
since 15 + 26 = 41.

No, "dropping".
