There are people out there who do make a difference! The children of more than
two generations understood Fred and the adults also appreciated him. Even in
retirement, I could enjoy being in the "Neighborhood."
There was a great story in the Allentown Call-Chronicle perhaps five to eight
years ago. Rogers was visiting the Crayola factory in Easton. The corporate
executives had attempted to orchestrate a publicity event THEIR WAY. The place
was full of kids. Rogers came in and the corporation attempted to turn it into a
celebration for the corporation. Rogers took over, ignored management, and turned
it into a celebration for the children. Perhaps he was never invited back but the
kids went home knowing they had a friend.
I guess it's OK to shed a tear or two.
