I see now that the photo was copyright in 1964.
PennAve was a much more active street than now.
Note the May Sterns Furniture chain store. Always active.
Also Fort Pitt hotel behind across 10th street. (site of new hotel now)
The convention center is now across Penn Ave.
A really good downtown area needs user friendly, diversified areas.
Pgh used to be that way. Not all sterile areas like Gateway.
There were movies downtown, several Stouffers restaurants.
Lots of department stores.
Matt....you not only missed the streetcars, you missed a very
different Pittsburgh. Neighborhoods on the North Side and
East Liberty. It was a good city that supported a much larger
population than today.
Matt....where do you live now. In a city or suburbs?
Where did you live in Pittsburgh?
