I can remember a couple things back then. I was born in '42 and I know we
moved to the big house when I was about 5. Before that I have a vague
memory of going to the neighborhood store with my sister to buy Christmas
presents for each other. One of us waited outside while the other went in
for the big purchase. The jerk in the store sold us both the same thing...

I remember my scooter - it had skate wheels and would flip easily - and I
remember the skinned knees.

I went to kindergarten early (mom wanted to get me out of the house) and I
vividly remember refusing to hold my sisters hand one day on the way home
and she let me go my own way. I panicked when I didn't recognize the
pattern on the sidewalk and, of course, she was gone. Apparently Mom was
more panicked.

What I don't remember is what happened last month.
