Perhaps 20 years ago it was clear that, coming from Derry, the
trolley made a rather gradual curve to the left as it approached 982.
Some time, maybe 15 years ago, someone took out a bunch of trees and
did some reshaping of the ground surface. Thus the rather blank area
between 982 and the end of the trolley grade on Derry-1.
Further SW, toward Bradenville, the trolley ran along the northern
side of the road (right side as you go from Peanut to Bradenville).
There was a pair of earth ramps (retaining wall on side toward road)
where the trolley line went over the PRR Bradenville Branch. One of
those was scraped away years ago and the other is gradually eroding
away.
My impression has been that the trolley crossed 982 as it came off
the private r-o-w, but I can't point to anything in particular to say
with certainty. There were a couple houses and a service station in
that area which disturbed the traces of the trolley line. Nearer to
Bradenville it was quite clear that the trolley had been on the north
side and even today, the pole line along the road is suspiciously far
from the road (or was the last I looked).
Decades ago one could still see in the pavement of 982 where the
trolley moved to the center line of the road at the eastern edge of
Bradenville. However, PennDoT did some paving about 40 years ago and
that was the end of that.
You did compare the photos and the map, and note that the street the
r-o-w runs into is Traction Avenue? Surely a suggestive name. But, I
don't know exactly how the streetcars got from Traction Ave. to the
barn (or anywhere else).
