But there IS a direct connection from the Turnpike to I-81 in Scranton. The
PTC is not going to tell you to exit in Carlisle or and drive a hundred
miles of FREE road, no - no - your are supposed to keep going East to the
Northeast extension and take that road north to Steamtown; you get to pay
more tolls to the PTC that way. There are plenty of signs up there and if
you miss the exit not to worry, the Turnpike just ends 16 miles later.
And to think the turnpike is the best road in the state...

To respond to Derrick et al, there is no sign at the 81-76 interchange
telling you that 81 goes to Scranton !! Just a sign telling you it goes to
Harrisburgh ,nothing else! Duh ,thats where the interchange is ! And since
my interstate map was a poor one, purchased before the trip, I was sol until
buying another version. A Pennsylvania State map would have been nice, but
found none at the rest stop east of Pittsburgh. The other problem out there
is the wall of trucks you are passing and you MISS THE REST STOP SIGN that
is placed a 1/4 mile before it !! The other gripe is,since driving the PT in
1958, the road is still a 2 lane bottleneck, except for the truck climbing
lanes near P-burgh. Never widened on the bumper to bumper section from
Harrisburgh to Phily!! What do they do with all the tolls they collect ???
New Bridges I guess from the multiple construction zones encountered all
across the country!! Generally every 20 or 30 miles ! Or new paving. The
trucks destroy the rig!
ht hand lane so I usually drove in the left lane until a looming speeder
showed up in the rear view mirror, and there were a lot of those! Penn.
trooper bagged one on a curve thru an underpass, parked just beyond it with
just the sensor aimed back at us !! GOTCHYA !! cheers rogertrolley
