"WORLD WAR II WEEKEND"
AT THE PENNSYLVANIA TROLLEY MUSEUM
Experience an authentic World War II U.S. Army Encampment during "World War
II Weekend" at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum in Washington, PA on Saturday
and Sunday July 19 and 20 from 10-5! Appropriately uniformed reactors will
be there to explain many of the artifacts they have including tents,
military vehicles and other artifacts. The reenactors represent the 110th
Regiment of the Pennsylvania's 28th Infantry Division, a unit that
distinguished itself during the Spanish-American War, World War I, and World
War II, especially during the Battle of the Bulge. The unit will be
available for questions and photographs and will be performing a flag
raising ceremony at 10:30am and a flag lowering ceremony at 4:30 each day.
Their encampment display will include vehicles, tents & living quarters,
field kitchen, displays of equipment, medical supplies and uniforms. Inside
the Museum's Visitor Education Center will be a special photo exhibit about
streetcar operations in Pennsylvania during World War II along with the new
photo exhibit On the Car Line: Pittsburgh and Points South, which describes
interurban trolley operations running from Pittsburgh to Washington and
Charleroi. Trolley rides will be going on all day as well including rides
over the Museum's new trolley line extension. There will also be rides on
an authentic Monongahela Railway caboose and cab rides on a vintage 1942
diesel locomotive built for the U.S. Navy by the H.K. Porter Co. of
Pittsburgh (extra charge).
Admission is $6 Adults, $5 Seniors (65+), and $3.50 Children (2-15). Under
2 are free. Military Veterans will be admitted free. Admission includes
unlimited 4 mile round trip trolley rides, guided tour, the, gift shop and
picnic area. Food will be available for sale.
Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is easy to find. Take I-79 to Exit 41 Meadow
Lands, or
Route 19 to Race Track Road, then follow the signs. For more information
