There is rail left on Rt. 55 where tracks left paving in Braddock,
heading onto prw which lead into East Pgh.
And there is rail in red brick paving in Millvale which was part of the
East Ohio Street at one time, but now is a parking lot in front of a few
small businesses at the intersection of Grant Street and East Ohio.
And there is a rail popping up on 47th Street at Butler Street in
Lawrenceville. Presumably this was rail used to run cars down to
Plummer Street car house, or was part of a track that turned into the
loop at 47th and Butler where a funeral home now is.
And there is rail left turning into the old loop on 8th Avenue in
Homestead formerly used to turn back Rt 65 Munhall and Rt 60 East
Liberty-Homestead cars.
And there is rail in Belgian Block paving running in front of the Old
Post Office Museum (I think it is now called the Children's Museum)on an
old stretch of East Ohio that is now part of the failed Allegheny Center
Mall.
There is also single track rail running on what I think is Madison
Street on the North Side running up from Chesnut Street. Not sure what
route used that!
Rail is exposed now and again on Main Street in Munhall.
And rail was exposed this past Saturday on Butler Street near
Morningside. The asphalt was scraped all the way from the 62nd Street
Bridge to Baker Street. I had forgotten the 96 East Liberty rail was
first in belgian block for a bit, then on red brick the rest of the way
to Baker Street. The exposure showed how well the red brick held up.
The tracks were a bit rusty, though.
For a number of years in the 1990's, the rail on Emerson Street which
was part of the 94 Aspinwall loop was totally exposed as was the yellow
brick paving. I assumed it was some community project that brought the
rail and yellow brick back to add some historic charm to the community.
A few years ago, the brick and rail were unceremoniously paved over
again with deep black asphalt.
