I received the following e-mail from a railroad friend.  The website probably includes old trolley photos as well.

Anyone interested in old railroad photos from the 30's and 40's can find
thousands at the Library Of Congress website.  These are documentary-style photos taken by government photographers. Included is a large series taken by Jack Delano on a trip he took by freight train from Chicago to Los Angeles on the ATSF in 1943.
