As in the previous post, they were to install sleet cutters on the trolley
pole. They lasted into the PAT era but were seldom used. I would operate ice
cutter cars and the cutter was always installed inside the SHJct car house.
I guess in the 'good old days' they would put ice cutters on every second or
third car on any given route. This would insure good operation. When the
system got down to the basic three lines, only one or two 'ice cutter cars' were
required at one time.
