During the years I operated PCC's we were not permitted to "fool around" with
the trolley poles, or even go up on the roof. The union thought it better for
our safety if that was left to the maintenance crews. I personally though it
might be fun to play with the trolley poles and climb up the little steps to
the roof, but, when someone else (the union) is running (ruining) your work
life, you must
obey.........obey..........obey...........obey..........obey.........Get the
picture?

As for snow storms I heard a few stories about the 1950 Thanksgiving snow
storm. One operator claimed to have been housed by people along the 56 line for
one night because the tracks were blocked until the next day. Heard several bus
operators talk about having to leave buses in the street and walk back to
garages or other places of "safety" during the same storm. Not much else though.
