Private right of way was the place to see if a car ran true or bounced around
like a ping pong ball. The street running tracks remained fairly level and
true while the PRW tracks were suspect to undermining, rotting ties,
misgauged rail, etc. The B3 trucks were superior to the B2. Then, they should
have been, they were the next step in new technology.
Most, but certainly NOT all, 17s rode better than the 16s. I can remember
that several (fleet numbers not remembered) 17s were a pain in the @$$ to
operate on the PRW. The bounced up and down and from side to side to the
point that passengers would have frightened looks on their faces, probably
thinking they were going to be placed in harms way at any second.
