48 went in 1968. We did a 3-car extravaganza in November 1971 when 44, 49
and 53 went bus. The "new" 49-Arlington-Warrington was just that...the 49
tracks up Arlington and the old 48 track on Warrington, some of which was
also used previously by 44, 47(latter-day 53) and "old" 49, to South Hills

I believe the "hilltop" lines (44, 48, the "real" 49 & 53) were discontinued
mid November, 1971.
The over the hill line (now 52) was pieced together from a couple of
stretches of two of the
abandoned lines as an alternative to the tunnel in the event of an
emergency. It was initially
designated Route 49.
