I dont agree that this mode of transit really didnt work.

Rather the funding at the time and the love affair with autos and the
decline of ridership due to TV, 5 day week, etc was the problem.

Why such a negative attitude?

Also I likedPgh in the 1960's and 70's.  I moved to Pgh in Feb 1950
and could see the difference.  Gen Mellon and Gov Lawrence did a good job.
I never felt like running away from Pgh.
