If I remember the original promise of cable TV correctly, it was that people
would willingly pay for TV without commercials. But it was also to provide
uniform reception. If I watched TV, I'd have to have cable, since my house
sits on the back side of a hill that interferes with the Pittsburgh
stations.

The is off topic, but didn't cable television have its origin as a solution
to
poor reception due to hilly topography? It seems I read that rural areas
similar
to some of those in Western Pennsylvania had receiving antennas that fed
cables
which distributed the broadcast signals to farm houses.
