It was a fine place to shop for some things when I lived in Oakland. The
first "Borders books and music" opened within walking distance of the end
of the line, but there are others now.

In 1985 you could ride 47D, L or S, and 42S. (47 and 42 short turns
existed, also)
47 was faster, but of course 47S ran infrequently.
