Sorry, that was just a flip way of saying that I first download headers without 
messages, then determine which ones I actually want to read and send the others 
into the ether.

Some mail readers permit this, including mine (Pegasus), but I don't recall 
having been able to do it with Outlook Express. To perform something of the 
same task with OE I've found it necessary a couple of times to delete offending 
messages online at my ISP website.
